Compound Bows

Ulysses archery, offers compound bows (compounds) hunting bows and compound hunting kits ready differently depending on availability. That is why we invite you to contact us, even if the item is not displayed, we will quote the best price.

Operation:

The branches of a compound bow are generally stiffer than those of a recurve or longbow. With this strength, the arc can produce more energy than other bows, but the branches are too harsh to be armed simply by direct action on the rope. The rope is attached to the pulleys (cams), one of them or both are connected to the other branch by a cable. When the rope is tight, it rotates the pulleys. They pull on the cables tend branches and store energy. The use of leverage gives the compound bow its voltage / lengthens characteristic, with a peak of force and a decrease (let off) to maintain power. The compound bow is little affected by changes in temperature and humidity, and gives greater speed than other bows.

Advantage:

When the bow is cocked, his power rises to a peak and then decreases to the holding force. This holding force can be 35% (65% let off) to 20% (80% let off) of maximum power. A manufacturer (Concept Archery) manufactures a compound bow with 99% let off.

It let off allows the archer to effectively use a bow with greater power it could do with a longbow or a recurve bow.

The cam system may include rubber-coated parts to define the extension of the arc. These parts provide a "wall" on which the archer can draw when in traction, they can be adjusted to optimal archer longer. This allows the archer to obtain repeatable anchor and energy transmitted to the constant boom, improving accuracy.

The drawing pulleys (cams) directly controls the acceleration of the arrow. This is called a soft cam (soft cam) accelerate the arrow softer than hard cam (hard cam). Beginners usually archers begin with a soft cam, while the more experienced archers choose a hard cam to gain speed. Bows can be supplied with a variety in the cams.

Some pulley systems use a single cam at the bottom of the arc, and a balanced wheel at the top of the arc instead of two identical cams. This design eliminates the need for cables, and instead uses a single string that begins on the cam bottom, passes around the wheel from the top, around the cam bottom again, and will be attached to the branch higher.
